Spare Ribs and Sauerkraut

country-style spare ribs (the meaty ones)
can of sauerkraut
salt and pepper to taste
brown sugar

Brown ribs on all sides in frying pan ...
Meanwhile, empty can of kraut (juice and all) into baking dish ...
Sprinkle with salt, pepper and brown sugar (think original called for 1/4 c packed bs for larger pan) ...
Top with browned ribs ... cover with foil and bake in preheated 350°F oven for 1 - 1 1/4 hrs.

Family preferred this served with plain white rice - would dish out ribs and kraut onto serving platter, and save cooking juice in a gravy boat to pour over rice as gravy ...
Served with a green salad and crusty bread.
