AuntCarol’s Buttermilk Sugar Cookies


If you love those big, soft sugar cookies that you can buy in your grocery store – look no further – here is the recipe for you –

Ingredients

• 1 cup margarine (2 sticks) NO SUBSTITUTE – MUST BE MARGARINE
• 2 cups sugar
• 3 eggs (slightly beaten)

In a large bowl, beat (by hand or mixer) the margarine (softened at room temperature) and sugar. Then add the 3 slightly beaten eggs until creamy.

ADD:

• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 2 cups flour (unsifted)
• 1/2 cup buttermilk

Beat until smooth.

ADD:

• 2 cups flour (unsifted)
• 1/2 cup buttermilk

Beat until smooth.

ADD:

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Drop dough by tablespoon-full 2 inches apart onto well-greased cookie sheet.

Sprinkle sugar on top.

Bake at 375 deg. on the center rack of your oven until slightly brown.

Cool on wire racks 15 minutes or until completely cooled.
